Uche Sparks Straightforward Palace Victory at Irish Side Shelbourne.

Even though embarking on their maiden European campaign, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Missing star figures like striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and wing-back Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles departed Dublin with a commanding result that virtually secures them a spot in the Conference League playoffs.

Another three points in their next match against Finland's KuPS should be enough to secure direct passage to the last 16, particularly after a previous setback against Strasbourg.

Fringe Players Grasp the Moment

This match offered a chance for several Palace's fringe players to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second start since joining on loan from Getafe, opened the scoring with a well-taken finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah added a another, scoring for the second consecutive match.

A Shelbourne side that had finished their domestic season were no match against a mostly rotated Palace outfit. The visitors were already depleted by the reports that Mateta and Muñoz are out with leg problems.

Control Established from the Outset

In spite of torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly took control. A flowing move in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to set up Uche for a straightforward tap-in.

Youngster Adam Wharton came close minutes later, driving a long-range shot over the bar. Nketiah subsequently appealed for a penalty after racing into the area, but the referee dismissed the appeals.

Ex-Arsenal man did not have wait long to get his goal, prodding home from a yard out after Uche's effort had struck the post.

Shelbourne were clinging on desperately. Defender Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to escape a booking for a couple of robust challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the woodwork with a powerful header from a corner.

Pino Seals the Game

The match was effectively over eight minutes before half-time. Yeremy Pino weaved past a series of weak challenges before coolly slotting a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.

Following the break, manager Oliver Glasner took the chance to withdraw several players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse almost scoring his very first touch, only to see his effort blocked.

Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one attempt strike off each posts before being clasped on the line. Uche also missed a glaring chance, showing there is still scope for improvement in his game.

A solitary worry for Palace was a late injury to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This paved the way for 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to make his senior debut, rounding off an otherwise perfect night for the traveling side.
