The Red Devils Poised to Sign German Forward Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated since she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Reliable Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be gathering positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has brought further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a senior figure stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
