The President Calls Families of Attacked National Guard Personnel to the Presidential Residence

Former President Trump stated on Sunday that he has invited the loved ones of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the executive mansion.

He mentioned that he spoke to her parents and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Tragic Shooting

Specialist Beckstrom, twenty years old, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.

Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their honor.

White House Offer

The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the West Virginia Guard.

“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a hard experience, come to the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president told reporters. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”

Community Response

Community members assembled over the weekend at the high school in the state to remember Beckstrom.

Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to aid policing efforts in the capital.

Paying Tribute to Sarah Beckstrom

“She was the type of pupil that instructors wished for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” the principal, the leader of her former high school, stated to the Associated Press. “She was kind, caring and always willing to help others.”

Funeral plans for Sarah are in the process of planning.

Legal Steps and Policy Revisions

Law enforcement have accused a 29-year-old Afghan national with a charge of homicide and charges of violent assault while armed.

The tragedy led the Trump administration to suspend asylum applications and temporarily stop granting entry permits to owners of travel documents.

Condition of Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a resident of the city, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the AP.

He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey stated on television.

The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi told the program that she aimed to speak to his relatives.

Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom

Beckstrom, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a military police officer with excellence, according to the military.

“She had a lot of compassion and she absolutely had bravery,” the governor told the audience at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to be remembered always.”
