The East African nation Receives Cultural Artefacts After a Century Residence in a German Family

Around 12 ancient objects have been formally restored to Ethiopia following staying by a household from Germany for in excess of 100 years.

These treasures, originally gathered in the 1920s by Germany's then-envoy to Ethiopia a German envoy and his wife his partner, were transferred on Wednesday to the research center at Addis Ababa University.

The set featured crowns, shields and canvases, all regarded as historically important in Ethiopia.

"These treasures continue to represent a symbol of the lasting and amicable connection between Germany and Ethiopia," said Germany's envoy, Germany's representative to Ethiopia.

Professor a professor, whose father was delivered during the household's diplomatic posting in the nation, handed over the objects at a event joined by Tourism Minister Selamawit Kassa.

He explained that the family's goal to give back the artefacts was to "display their appeal with the people and maintain the heritage and history connected to my father's birth."

The objects were either presents or purchases, based on the family.

"I want to express gratitude to Professor Weiss's family for concretely expressing their profound appreciation for Ethiopia by meticulously preserving these treasures and vitally guaranteeing their homecoming to their rightful country," commented the tourism minister.

She added that the items would shortly be made accessible to the general audience for investigation and scholarly work, terming the decision a significant step in protecting Ethiopia's national treasures.

"Efforts persist to repatriate old items that are located in the hands of individuals and organizations all over the world," the minister said.

In the era of colonial rule in Africa, many of historical objects were taken.

This call by nations in Africa for the repatriation of taken objects has been met with certain progress in lately - though several artefacts are just on loan.

Back in the year 2022, Germany was the initial state to return some of the well-known historical items to the Nigerian people as part of an effort to deal with its "complex colonial history."
