The American champion Optimistic of Being 'perfectly positioned' for the upcoming Winter Olympics

Alpine star Lindsey Vonn has declared she will be "in a good place" for the Milan-Cortina Olympics, following securing a podium spot for the fourth instance in five World Cup races.

The veteran athlete, who last week set a record by becoming the most senior racer to win a downhill World Cup winner, came in third place in the super-G in Val d'Isere on Sunday. This represented her 142nd career World Cup podium finish.

Strong Return in the French Alps

Returning to the iconic venue for the first time in almost a decade, Vonn crossed the line in a time of 1:20.60. She was 0.36 seconds behind victor Sofia Goggia of Italy, with New Zealand's Alice Robinson taking second place.

"I was slightly lacking enough direction on the first jump," Vonn remarked. "Subsequently, I skied well. I'm pleased with my performance today, in contrast to in the super-G in St Moritz, where I was not aggressive enough."

This performance was her second podium at Val d'Isere over the weekend, having also taken third in the downhill on Saturday.

An Incredible Return from Retirement

Vonn ended her career in February 2019 as a result of ongoing knee problems. However, she staged a competitive comeback in December 2024 after a major knee surgery.

With just over six weeks remaining until the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, which are set to run from 6-22 February, Vonn's form are timely.

She boasts an Olympic gold and two Olympic bronze medals from previous Games and is strongly positioned to represent the United States at the 2026 Games.

"At the Olympics, I will be in a good place," Vonn affirmed.

Chasing More Titles

Alongside her Olympic ambitions, Vonn is also hoping to add to the four World Cup titles she has secured over a career spanning two decades.

She presently enjoys a substantial lead at the summit of the downhill World Cup rankings and is sitting in fifth place in the super-G World Cup table.

This season's World Cup circuit includes a total of nine races scheduled before the circuit finale in Norway on March 21st, 2026.
