2K Recruits Apex Legends Producer to Rescue Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Leadership Transition Follows Poor Reception

The new appointee steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last autumn.

On Wednesday, 2K president a key figure informed staff about this strategic move through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had revealed the requirement for a clearer game identity.

The president noted that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to address gamer demands.

A Pattern of Key Recruitment

This announcement follows a similar move taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise development group.

Below is the entire text from Ismailer's announcement:

Hello Everyone—

I know you all just completed your gathering - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Last time I shared you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and talented creators we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that partnership to persist.”

Given your hard work and flexibility, especially over the last year, you continue to prove that.

The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS demo was informative. It validated the potential of a action-packed game but made clear we still had work to do. It highlighted the need for a sharper brand.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You embraced the input to mind and overhauled Project ETHOS with a revitalized vision - one that’s poised to achieve its ambition to our audience.

Our confidence in this project increases every day. To boost the outstanding progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome the new hire as the incoming Lead of 31st Union. Following some time of discussions, he comes aboard us on Monday, October 20.

His leadership and expertise in the competitive gaming genre is considerable, having devoted the last 15 years creating and leading some of the most well-known franchises in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and more recently, Apex Legends.

I invite you all in greeting him in the coming days. We are all eager to keep seeing the progress of Project ETHOS in the weeks to come.

David

Background of the Incoming Leader

Brinkman presently serves in the role of executive producer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier worked at Treyarch and Activision in multiple development positions on the Call of Duty games, and, earlier in his career, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.

Title Information and Concept

The upcoming game was announced in last year alongside a public demo. At the time, the developers portrayed the game as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting advancement on the genre."

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Build your hero in live gameplay to suit your personal playstyle," the official summary explains. "Take on the competition with fresh skills, stakes, and tests that shift every match. Do you leave securely with your hard-earned loot? Alternatively take a risk, risk it all, and hope your group can earn top ranking? The option is in your hands."

Project Ethos has not yet received an official release date or platforms, but players can look forward to further news as production continues.
